5 Happy Pop's Day!

I love my dad!
Here are a few Marky Mark memoirs--

My dad is hard working:
My dad loves working more than anyone I know. He grew up on a farm and we haven't been able to shake that work ethic from him yet. He taught us kids to be hard workers, too. One night my mom woke up around 4am to find that my dad still wasn't in bed. She went out in the family room to discover him asleep on the couch with his head lamp on his head, light still on.
It is not unusual to wake up in the morning and find my dad doing something like this in the yard:
He's a busy, busy bee!

My dad is always patient:
When Rach & I were little, we were obnoxious most of the time. And when I say, "most of the time," I mean, like, only when we were awake. When Rach & I were about 5 & 6, my dad was on a conference call, had his laptop in front of him, and Rach & I came in with a mouthful of water and just drooled it all over him to be funny and he just started laughing with us. Good dad. Bad Rach & Dan.

My dad is logical:
As a teenager, I never talked back to my parents, instead I just ignored them and walked away when I disagreed = equally as bratty. One time I went upstairs and slammed my door. Next thing I know, I hear an electric drill. My dad straight up took my door off the hinges and walked away with it! HAH! I was so bugged and a few minutes later, Rach slammed her door. Off it went, too. We got our doors back a week later, but while we were waiting, we got dressed in the bathroom. Needless to say, we never slammed our doors again.

My dad is awesome (sometimes unintentionally):
My dad was refinishing my Grandmother's basement and was putting up dry wall. I went downstairs and he straight up had a do-rag on his head!
"Dad, why the heck do you have a do-rag on your head?"
"Huh? What's a do-rag? No, I just saw this at the store and got it so my hair doesn't get paint all in it. Isn't it handy?"
Ohhhhh, Marky Mark!

My dad is a smarty pants:
He just is. Education was HUGE to my dad. He's the 13th out of 15 kids in his family and was the first to go to college. He got his bachelor and masters degree while holding a job, and taking care of a wife and two kids all within 6 years. I can't imagine.

My dad has excellent hearing:
In our middle school days, Rach & I would sneak out of our rooms to play Sims all night. He always knew. Once I reached high school, he just always knew when I snuck back into the house even when I thought I had completely mastered it. He'd come downstairs and say, "Have fun?" and then tell me to get to bed. At least he was nice about it.

My dad is honest & trustworthy:
My dad holds honesty above everything else. I remember when I was younger and brought home my report card, my dad would always say, "Danielle, I'm so proud of you. I'm so proud that you got straight A+'s and you're pretty much a prodigy child and you're so incredibly gifted..." (maybe a little bit of embellishment there, minus the part about straight A's, winky face), "but what's most important to me is that you did not cheat and these grades are reflecting your own work." I always felt so good being able to tell my dad that I really was honest in school because I knew how important that was to him.

To my hard working, patient, logical, smarty pants, awesome, super sonic hearing, honest, and much, much more, dad: I love you so much! Wish I could be with you on your day! I would buy you the biggest tool set in the world and give you lots of cars to fix up. XOXO

This video was shown in Relief Society a few Sundays ago and it made me tear up because it reminded me so much of my own dad. Thought I'd share!
