5 Christmas Projects for the Kiddos

I'm no pro at this, but these are the ones we've done in my classroom. I'd love to hear of what you do too with your kids or students!

Time capsule ornament. I was racking my brain with what we could give the kids' parents for Christmas this year. I finally came up with the idea of a time capsule ornament. I ended up LOVING this project and will do it forever now. So easy and the kids were so excited about doing it. I had them write down 5 memories from 2011. I told them "no lame memories," because I'm mean like that. They wrote about vacations they went on, bones they broke and I even got, I had my first boyfriend :) Oh, to be 9.
P.S. We had zero glass bulb casualties. Jigga whatttt?? IT'S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE.
Girls got cheetah bows (duh). Boys got stripes.

I had a few people text or email me about Sub for Santa and how we did it. I sign up for 2 kids every Christmas to sponsor. I love doing it and now incorporate my kids into the project. I tell them beforehand that I am paying for it, they just need to earn the money. I make a chart with 10 rows and 40 squares in each row. Each square represents a quarter and each row has $10. When I spot a kid being good, they color in a quarter. It's a great way to teach them about doing service in our community and we have the whole "pay it forward" chat. Sub for Santa is such an awesome program. You buy a child 2 outfits, 2 toys and a book for Christmas. It costs between $100-$150 per child.
You can sign up for a child here.

We wrote about our favorite Christmas tradition. It's nothing too extensive, just wanted them to get a little more editing practice in before the holidays.

This afternoon we listened to Christmas music and made Rudolf.

So now my classroom is covered head to toe in glitter. Glitter's a pain in the butt but it's a definite craft must-have during the holidays.

I'd love love to hear what things you do with your kids or students during the holidays! I'm always looking for fun and clever activities!

  3. Kate, they have plastic ones that you can open in the middle so you can put pictures or other trinkets in the ornament but I couldn't get enough for all of my kids. Next year I'm going to order them in October off of Oriental trading company's website.

  5. I wish I had seen this sooner! Such a great idea that I could have done with my class but I am no more a Primary teacher of 10 & 11 year old girls. I'm sure going to miss them! It looks like you are enjoying your kids and it's so great!
