4 Lucky Trash Winner

About once a week in my class, we play Lucky Trash Winner.
At the end of the day, they put their chairs on their desk.
Rules are, you can't say one word or you're eliminated.
I spot two pieces of trash on the floor (out of the billions) that are 'lucky.'
When I call "GO!" everyone scrambles to pick up trash. Remember, there's no talking! Kids are in every nook and cranny of the classroom, on their bellies, sliding under desks cleaning up a staple or scrap piece of paper-- so serious about picking up trash.
You've never seen children clean so fast & vigorously.
When I see that everything is picked up. I have them stop where they are. Whichever two people picked up and threw away the 'lucky' pieces of trash get a DUM DUM sucker.

I bet you wouldn't have ever believed that a 51 calorie sucker could produce that sort of work ethic.

Let me tell you a little secret though. Yes, I love a clean classroom, but really the reason I play Lucky Trash Winner is for my own self-indulged entertainment. I giggle the entire time. No one notices of course because they're much too worried about grabbing the lucky trash.
I've got myself a win-win situation.

P.S. Today one of my girls asked me if we could play "magic trash winner." I told her I have no clue what that is. Bratty.

  1. Very cool clean-up plan! Nice to get a chuckle now and then with all that you deal with at school! So fun to find JOY in everything you do!
