13 Happy Birthday Mommy!

This will be the mother of all posts (hardy har har) because it's for my wonderfully amazing mom. Today is her __ birthday. She can choose whether or not to tell you how old she is, but here's a hint, she's young. And she still has a banging bod. Props.

10. My mom packed our lunches. She put all healthy food in there too. (I was the kid no one would trade with in elementary school). Not only that, but she wrote notes on our napkins! They would just say, "love you sweetheart" or "let's watch a movie tonight!" Isn't that the greatest thing you've ever heard of? Sometimes she'd even stamp our napkins with hearts or pumpkins or four-leaf clovers.
9. My mom is sooooo creative! I wish I could do what she does! Anything dealing with sewing, painting, decorating, scrapbooking, card making, you name it, she's done it & done it well. She graduated from BYU in fashion design & has made gazillions of wedding dresses, prom dresses, shirts, suits, swimsuits, beautiful children's dresses... anything and everything. (She also has a separate room for crafts and a separate room for sewing. Spoiled.)8. She is so nice! People in the ward & our neighborhood recognize her as a smiley face, helpful & cheerful. She also has such a good reputation. I've never heard of a bad thing about her.
7. My mom is a ball of fire... She can be sassy... hahahahaha. Along those lines, she's super super energetic. I can't remember her ever saying she's tired. She is not lazy that's for sure. I never her see her just chillin, unless it's playing games with our family or watching a movie. Growing up, if we ever told my mom we were tired, every time she'd say, "go workout, it adds an hour to your day!" That's what I do now. 6. She loves having our friends over. In high school, the Stolworthy house was the place to go! We'd have tons of kids over everynight partying it up. The only rules were "be good." My parents would go off to bed & we could still be as loud as we wanted. Now, she just texts my friends and calls them. It is not uncommon for a roommate to say, "when i was on the phone with your mom today..." Ahh yes, of course.
5. My mom is funny. Everyone who knows her knows this. I honestly laugh so hard whenever I'm around her. She is so so witty & always has everyone cracking up. Even Spencer can't help but crack a smile at her jokes. She can also tell a story better than anyone I know. Sure it'll be a littttle exhaggeratted, but it makes for a better story.

4. My mom is really sensitive towards others. About a year ago I called my mom bawling my eyes out so hard I couldn't even breathe. Finally when I stopped I waited to hear what she said on the other side of the line, I thought we had lost connection because I heard nothing. Finally I realized she was crying too. She then told me that she knew I could make it through & she knew how I felt but I could do it. That's the best thing that could've happened to me. I realized she really did know how I felt.
3. My mom is not the mom to look the other way if her kids are doing something bad. This used to bug the crap out of me! I wanted to do what I wanted to do without her interfering. She has no problem confronting her kids if they're out of line. She's always right though. Even the other night on the phone I was griping to her about someone that annoyed me, and she said, "Danielle, what's your problem? Normally that stuff would roll off your back. Let it go." She was right again. It was a bad day & I was letting something bother me that normally would've never phased me.
2. My mom's a good wifey. Whenever us kids were sassy to our dad, she would defend him immediately. She loves my dad & we know that. She gives him hugs, she's affectionate & she constantly compliments him in front of us. It's a good thing to see. 1. She is a faithful member of the church. If the prophet says it, she obeys & expects her kids to obey. No ifs, ands or buts. Everything is black & white to her. This was something I struggled with because of my laid back personality, but the older I've gotten, the more I have valued her straight forwardness & devotion to the gospel. Our family motto is "no empty chairs" (in the celestial kingdom). She constantly reminds us of this & has always told us it's the little things that keep us out.
When my sister was 5 she wrote to my mom, "I love you so much I could squish you like a lady bug!"
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Happy birthday Mom! You're so great, thanks for all that you do and thanks for being my best friend & biggest cheerleader! I love you!!

  3. Danielle you are gifted with words when it comes to family for sure! You do have the most amazing mother and I am so glad that you recognize that. I guess you'd have to deaf, blind and dumb not to...but some kids are! :) Your mother has always been a treasure. She was such a sweet and endearing little girl. I can still envision that darling smile and that pretty head of strawberry blond hair. She has always had the most amazing hair! I love her wit, talents and her style but mostly her devotion to family and the Gospel. She has been the perfect example of how to honor your mother and I am so grateful to her for that. Yes, Danielle you are one lucky girl! Love her and love you!

  10. Danielle, I had a similar experience once when I was so upset and crying about something that was important to me. My cousin, Frances, was the absolute best listening ear and she cried real tears right along with me, too. I knew then she understood my hurt because it brought her to tears as well. Your mother is wonderfully sensitive in that way, and so understanding. It is a great personality trait!
